MA on FIne Arts Project: "The lost cardboard army"
During academic year 2019-2020 I attended an MA course on Fine Arts, at Gray’s School of art, in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Thematically my final dissertation would revolve around terms such as historical memory, cultural blending and visual narrative. My research was primarily focused on Scottish history, specifically on the prominent involvement of Scottish merchants and entrepreneurs, in the industrialization of Japan at the end of 19th century, and Aberdeen’s economical shift from fishing to oil extraction during the 70s and the 80s.

The exhibition was planned to be a combination of installations and paintings on canvas. It would be consisted of 60 figures made out of cardboard, curated along with 6 large scale paintings. By juxtaposing art pieces in space the narrative would be expanded beyond the surface of the canvas, hence the viewer would walk between the figures, experiencing  visual narrative not just observing it.

Unfortunately on March of 2020 the university shut down due to the Co-vid pandemic thus the project reached a stalemate. Although a digital exhibition took place on September of 2020, it was just a substitute of an actual art show.
When the program ended I had to return back to Greece, leaving behind the “cardboard army” along with paintings, art materials and several notes, all locked in university’s storehouse.
